“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!” John 14:12-14
Jesus spent significant time in the book of John making sure His followers knew that if they’d seen Him, they’d seen the Father. John is written in such a way that it’s absolutely clear that Jesus NEVER tried to hide the fact that He and the Father are One! So after explaining this AGAIN–saying that anyone who’s seen the works I’ve been doing, has seen the Father at work as well, Jesus says, “anyone who believes in Me will do the same works I have done”! Wooh, did I hear that right? Jesus healed the sick, cast out demons, stilled storms, fed thousands and best of all, taught and demonstrated the love of God not the Law of God! And the believers would do THESE SAME THINGS??? But it gets better . . .
Jesus’ next phrases is, “even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father”. GREATER WORKS? GREATER THAN JESUS’?!? How could this be?
Through Jesus was still God while on earth, He was only one guy. He, however, trained and equipped 11 guys and filled them with the Holy Spirit Who gave them power to actually do the same things He did. They, in turn, evangelized, trained and equipped many people (their ministries were usually longer than Jesus’ was). They, in turn, did the same, all filled and empowered by Holy Spirit, Who worked in their lives to confirm them (and us) to God’s nature and empowered them (and us) to accomplish the work of Jesus (same as God the Father’s), etc.
This cycle of multiplication has continued for 2 millenniums, wJesus’ Church, ultimately reaching or “doing greater works”, than Jesus, simply because there’s more of us. This was God’s plan all along.
We just need to make sure our desires are His!
Think About It!
