“As He drew near Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the road begging. Hearing a crowd passing by, he inquired what this meant. “Jesus the Nazarene is passing by,” they told him. So he called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Then those in front told him to keep quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me! ” Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to Him. When he drew near, He asked him, “What do you want Me to do for you? ” “Lord,” he said, “I want to see! ” “Receive your sight! ” Jesus told him. “Your faith has healed you.” Instantly he could see, and he began to follow Him, glorifying God. All the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.” Luke 18:35-43
Jesus was on His way from Galilee to Jerusalem. As he approched Jericho, He and His entourage walked past a blind guy who was begging or “pan- handling” beside the road. At this point, Jesus had near-celebrity status, so when the blind guy found out that Jesus was nearby, he started to shout out loudly or to “cry out” for Jesus, hoping to attract His attention. When the people standing around him tried to quiet the guy, he shouted even LOUDER, “JESUS”, have mercy on me”! When Jesus heard the man, He asked that he be brought to Him. What a moment in time for this guy-in mere seconds he’s gone from begging for money and food in the streets to meeting the most influential man of all time! “What do you want for Me to do for you,”, asked Jesus, to which the man replied, “I want to see”! With a simple word from Jesus, the man was healed completely and could see clearly!” The man began to follow Jesus that day and when the people of Jericho saw this, they began to give glory to God!
The moral of the story? Presistance bring results, even with Jesus! Had the blind guy shut up like he was told to, he might have never gained his sight. He instead cried out for Jesus all the louder!
Often, we pray for something once, then quit if our prayer isn’t answered in the next few minutes! This guy was relentless-he wanted Jesus’ attention because he new Jesus could change his life! What about you? Do you need a life “game-changer” today? Cry out to Jesus-He wants to help! Think about it!
