“There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven: a time to give birth and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to uproot; a time to kill and a time to heal; a time to tear down and a time to build; a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance; a time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace and a time to avoid embracing; a time to search and a time to count as lost; a time to keep and a time to throw away; a time to tear and a time to sew; a time to be silent and a time to speak; a time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace. He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also put eternity in their hearts, but man cannot discover the work God has done from beginning to end. I know that all God does will last forever; there is no adding to it or taking from it. God works so that people will be in awe of Him.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, 11, 14
My parents. In an attempt to teach us to behave in ways appropriate for any given situation, repeated said, “there’s a time and place for everything” (and in my case this was usually followed by an, “and this is NOT the right time and place”!) At any rate, Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived and the 3rd king of Israel, wrote almost the same thing- there’s a time for everything in the world- “a time to live and a time to die”. “A time to live and a time to die” . . .etc.
Solomon’s next statement however, is his most profound and is the key to understanding life! Solomon says, “He (God) has also put eternity in their (mankind’s) hearts . . .” Truely, if we don’t understand that we were created for eternity, we’ll waste away trying to satisfy our thirst for the eternal with temporary stuff that doesn’t last. The truth, as told in VERSE 11 is that ALL THAT GOD DOES IS FOR ETERNITY and that (vs 14) GOD DOES EVERYTHING TO SHOW HIS GLORY!
Veiw your life in the light of eternity-you’ll feel MUCH BETTER! Thk abou
