“Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:25-26
The Psalmist (Aseph in this chapter) had come to realize that in light of eternity, God was not only the best resource in life, He was the ONLY true resource in life. Taking into account the mortality of man, the Psalm writer had concluded that over the course of time, God was his only true and sure shot! He realized that in all of heaven and earth, only God was a sure thing. He realized that his (and those around him) heart and interests could change or shift, but God would remain true! He realized that his (and those around him) physical body would fail, but God would remain! He knew from experience that God was his strenghth and his eternal redward! GOD AND GOD’S WORD ARE THE ONLY THINGS THAT ARE TRUE, REALABLE AND UNCHANGING IN LIFE! All others will eventually fail you or die!
God reminds us in Isaiah 40:8 that “The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever.”
