“Let Your hand be with the man at Your right hand, with the son of man You have made strong for Yourself. Then we will not turn away from You; revive us, and we will call on Your name. Restore us, Yahweh, the God of Hosts; look on us with favor, and we will be saved.” Psalms 80:17-19
In Psalm 80, the nation of Israel, God’s people, had turned away from Him. Consequently, they felt isolated from Him because of their sin. Asaph, the Psalmist and choir director, began this song by acknowleging God’s power and greatness! He begins with “Listen, Shepherd of Israel, who leads Joseph like a flock; You who sit enthroned on the cherubim, rise up . . ” He acknowledges God as Israel’s Shepherd and King, the One Who sits on His throne with the cherubim, God’s angels assigned to praising Him around His throne. He actually prophetically, prayes for Jesus in vs17, the “Man” seated at God’s right-hand, the Son of man (a phrase often used in the Gospels that described Jesus, God in human flesh). Prophetically, he writes that in Jesus, we will be revived-brought back to life, and will not turn away from God again. Somehow he understood that Jesus would be a perminant solution to the sin problem that all of us as humans have, whereas prior to Jesus with the sacrificial system, our solution was only temporary.
Asaph also understood grace-God’s favor, given to us for free! He prayes in verse 19 for God’s favor, for Him to restore us and as a result, to save us. All of us need salvation. All of us need to be restored to God. All of us desperately need God’s grace. Ultimately, all of us need Jesus, the One he talks about!
Recieve His salvation, restoration and life today!
