“Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts. Satisfy us in the morning with Your faithful love so that we may shout with joy and be glad all our days. Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish for us the work of our hands — establish the work of our hands!”
Psalms 90:12, 14-14, 17
Psalm 90 is about God’s wrath and correction. The Nation of Israel would go thru cycles of worshipping God, turning away from God, being corrected by God and returning to God. In this prayer of Moses, they had strayed and were in the process of returning. Moses reminds his readers of the shortness and futility of the days of man. He reminds us that most of us have 70 to 80 years of life (vs 10) and that the sum of our days are like a sign (vs 9) so we should live productively, remembering that our days are numbered or limited.
He reminds us that true satisfaction in life only comes from loving and knowing God, asking God to satisfy us with His love each morning so that we might be glad and joyful for all our days.
He finally asks for God’s favor to be on us so that our work (in veiw of the limetedness of our short life cycle) might be established and meaningful.
Bottom line: God is good and wants our lives to be good and meaningful! God loves us and desires that we show His love to others! God is life and our limited lives can only find true satisfaction in His life!
Think about it!
