“And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name.” Luke 1:46-49
Upon Elizabeth’s blessing, Mary either waxes poetic or maybe even breaks into song! Our text today, plus the next few are Mary’s song. It starts with magnifying and glorifying God and rejoicing in her Savoir God! As we pray, its only fitting that we give thankgiving and praise to God, acknowledging what He’s done for us, just as Mary does! Mary knows the magnitude of what God has called her to and knows that she’s just an ordinary girl, called to do an extradinary thing! Because of this, she realizes that she’ll be considered and called “blessed” for future generations! Finally in our text, she realizes any position that she has before God has been given to her, not because of who she is, but because of Who He is! She proclaims, “holy is His Name”!
Her song continues in the insuing verses, but here’s the point: God took and ordinary girl who’s heart was open and pure towards Him and when the time right, called her to an extrodany task and empowered her with His Spirit to complete it! She realized who she was and her limitations, but also realized Who God is with all of His unlimitations! She gave Him full access to all that she was and played one of the most significant roles in history–mothering the God of the universe as He came to earth in human form!
What is God calling you to today? Whatever it is, your availiblity to Him far out weighs your ability! Think about it!
