“But You, Lord , are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts up my head. I cry aloud to the Lord , and He answers me from His holy mountain. Selah I lie down and sleep; I wake again because the Lord sustains me. I am not afraid of the thousands of people who have taken their stand against me on every side. Salvation belongs to the Lord ; may Your blessing be on Your people. Selah”
Psalms 3:3-6, 8
David faced many troubles during his lifetime. In this case, his own son was try to kill him nut thank God for the BUT! Verse two begins with BUT You, Lord, are shield, my glory and the One Who lifts up my sagging head! Then David adds, “I cried to the Lord and He answered me, even from His holy mountain.
David knew God. He knew His nature, he knew His ways and he was friends with God. He confidently knew that God always had his back and that He would hear him and answer him, even from His holy mountain (Jerusalem). In other words, even though David was on the run. God would hear and answer him!
David, with confidence, lies down and sleeps, under God’s protective watch. His confidence is in God and in the fact that God actually owns salvation-God’s ability to protect comes with God Himself. Protecting us is Who God is!
