“He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them. You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth.”
Psalm 104:5-9
David continues his doscourse about God’s greatness, taking inspiration from the vast conplexity of the eartb in its funtions as his subject. He starts by turning his attention to how the earth stays in place. He says that God placed it on its foundations where He faithfully sustains it. To thais day the complexity of the intricate gravitaional balance that holds the earth, moon planets, suns, stars and entire galaxies in place is a scientific mystery!
David then reflects on the great flood of Genesis 8 as his subject matter. He speaks of how God sustained the earth’s balance even during days when water covered even the mountains of the earth, but with just a word, the waters receded into the seas and low elevations of the earth, remaining in those bounteous for the rest of earth’s time, as promised by God in Genesis 8:21-22 “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”
God’s power is emense, as demomstrated with just a word or flick of His
hand.
David knew the greatest of God and had obviously contimplated it. Have you?
Think about it!
