“How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious,
teeming with creatures beyond number—living things both large and small.
There the ships go to and fro, and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.
All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time.
When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.
When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.
When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.”
Psalm 104:24-30
There are over 4 billion documented species of animals, fish, birds and insects on our planet and it is estimated that there are as many as quadrillion if you count the separate categories of beetles and flying insects. It’s probable that there are at least as many undiscovered and documented ones are there are documented ones and what’s really incredible is that our Lord knows the whereabouts and needs of each one!
Psalms 104:24 begins with, “How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number—living things both large and small.”
The complexity of creation is obviously something to marvel at, and David gave thanks and praise to God for it!
David continues in verse 27, by stating that “all creatures-ALL AT LEAST 4 BILLION SPECIES OF THEM-look to You for their food at the proper time.”
Amazingly in verse 28, David states that “You-God-give it to them”! What a comfort it is to know that God cares for all of the animals, individually! If He does that for them, how do you suppose He feels about you and provides for you? Matthew 3:26 states, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” God LOVES you and wants to provide for ALL of your needs!
One final thought: verse 30 states that, “When you send your Spirit,
they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.” The very breath or essence of God-His Spirit-breathed life into mankind in Genesis 2:7, and David had realized that without the Presence of God upon the earth, all of creation would die because at the core of every beating heart upon this earth, however big or small, are those “electronic impulses” that cause each heart to beat, which science still cannot explain. A need for God is at the core of our very existence!
Think about it!
