“May they know that You alone — whose name is Yahweh — are the Most High over all the earth.”
Psalms 83:18
Psalm 83 is all about the enemies of God. Asaph, the Psalm’s writer, talks of those who seek to destroy Israel, whom he identifies as “God’s treasured ones” (vs 3) and seeks to disrupt the plans of God. In a nut-shell, he asks God to pursue and destroy His enemies in ways comparable to ways He had done this before, but, in the end, to draw these people into a knowledge of Who He is and His salvation.
Asaph ends with our focal verse: “May they know that You alone — whose name is Yahweh — are the Most High over all the earth.”
I find this verse to be incredible! God has no need to stomp out His enemies-He’s done that already! He doesn’t try to make these opposing people look bad or foolish-they’ve done that to themselves. In the end, God’s purpose is to draw all people to Himself (John 6:44), so that they find salvation in Him. “May they KNOW . . .” that You alone; You exclusively; You undoubtedly; You, Whose Name is Yahweh, are God alone and reigning over all the earth!
God loves people! He wants them to know Him. He wants YOU to know Him!
How is God using your personal situation to draw you and those who may be opposing you to Himself today?
Definitely something to think about!
