If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!
Proverbs 11:27
“Ready or not, here I come”–are words uttered during the childhood game of hide and seek. In the game several hide, while one typically hid their eyes (while the hider’s hid) and then sought. In today’s verse, however, EVERYONE is searching!
The first group searches for good. Good can sometimes be hard to find! Sometimes good has to be sought for in the midst of bad situations. Sometimes something good that someone can do who has a history of making bad choices is what is sought for. Sometimes a good, Godly or eternal perspective has to be sought for in the midst of bad circumstances. Sometimes good activities must be sought for or even made up in an otherwise sinful/evil environment.
Bottom line-searching for good peroduces favor with God! The “churchy” or theological word that’s used for favor is “grace”! It can be deduced that one who seeks for good in bad circumstances, amid bad choices and while in bad company will find God’s Good Grace or favor! Basically, if you’ll look for good, you’ll find it!
Likewise, the verse continues, if you “search for evil, it will find you”! This is why natural curiousity by young and old alike, needs to be balanced by good sense, wise counsel and investigational research. Often, trying something once leads to addiction and/or addictive behaviors, and we find ourselves in a very bad place in life in a very short period of time!
Seek good! Seek God! Seek Him above all other things and Jesus promises that all of our other needs will be found! (Matthew 6:33)
Think about it!
