“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
Pray=talking to God. Not to the stars. Not to fate. Conversing with God! The people in Solomon’s day were encouraged, and in this case, rewarded for talking to Him!
The truth is that MOST of us actually DO pray, we just often pray selfishly. A pastor challanged my heart significantly about this by asking, “If God heard ONLY your prayers today, how much of the world around you would benefit?” His point? Many of us pray selfishly because we only ask God to bless us, heal us, help us, save us!
We’re also selfish prayers in that we often talk TO God, but seldom talk WITH God! When we pray, we should listen to what HE has to say! This is more like seeking His face, like this verse. When I call a friend, text a friend or email a friend, I can’t see the person I’m chatting withs response. If I REALLY need advise, I talk to that person in a way that I can see their face, their reactions and their emotions! This is what it means to seek God. It’s not only about what I want Him to do, it’s more about finding out what HE WANTS TO DO and praying THAT! When we’re ready to lay aside our own desires and ask God for real help, not only in our personal lives, but in our family’s lives, our friends lives, our church’s lives, our school, community, state, country and world’s lives, NOW I’M SEEKING HIM!
God says, “if My people, will pray, cry out to Me, seek Me, I will hear, answer, forgive and heal!
Who are you praying to? Whom are you praying for? Are you willing to change your prayer and even your lifestyle if you learn that what you want and what God wants are not the same thing?
Think about it!
