“He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.”
Ephesians 1:7‭-‬8

Our Grace-filled God, described here by Paul as “rich in kindness & grace, puts His grace into action! Remember, in the previous verses, Paul makes it clear that God PLANNED grace. Before He ever created people, He knew we’d rebel against Him. He loved us so much He created us anyway, planning ahead of time to bring us back to Himself! From this context of love, God displays His kindness towards us, His grace-His unearned and unearnable favor–so, because of grace, He “purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son.” We weren’t just casually involved in sin, we were slaves to it and chained to it! God rescued us by buying our freedom.

Furthermore, God not only purchased our freedom from sin, He completely forgave our sin debt. This would be like asking a wealthy person for a loan, later being unable to make a payment, asking for a payment extension, but recieving complete FORGIVENESS and CANCELATION of the debt! That’s what Jesus did with our sin debt–He totally forgave us, unchained us and set us free! What an Awesome Savior!

Next, God “showered His kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.” Now when you take a shower, you don’t just get your hands wet or your head wet, you get completely wet!

Likewise, God didn’t just show us a little kindness, grace and forgiveness, He showers it down on us so that we are soaked in it! He also throws in a little wisdom and understanding! I believe this is for the purpose of understanding, at least partly, God’s goodness, kindness and grace! Being soaked in God love, freed by God’s love and forgiven by God’s love & grace comes with the responsibility to share that love and grace! We need His wisdom to do that!

Take time today to consider the depth of God’s love and the high price by which it was purchased!
