TAKE 5

So the family went and lived in a town called Nazareth. This fulfilled what the prophets had said: “He will be called a Nazarene.” Matthew 2:23

“The boy grew up and became strong, filled with wisdom, and God’s grace was on Him.”
Luke 2:40

So Jesus, the Little Baby in the manger, grew up! By the time He was 2, He’d already escaped Herod’s attempt to kill Him by eliminating all the baby boys in Israel. Thankfully, Joseph, His earthly dad, listened when God spoke to Him, taking Him to Egypt, to avoid the danger, then returning to Israel in the province of Galilee, so that Scripture would be fulfilled that stated the Messiah would be from there (Isaiah 9:1-2). And so Jesus grows up and with the exception of 1 specific sighting of Him that we’ll talk about tomorrow, we know nothing about Him for 30 years!

So Jesus grows up in obscurity. Although Mary and Joseph were devout Jews, who faithfully gave attention to the Hebrew rituals prescribed in the Levitical Law, probably attending the local synagogue there in Nazareth and at least annually traveling to Jerusalem to attend Passover in the temple (Luke 2:41), we find no other evidence that Jesus was anything but ordanary.
We know He had been sufficiently schooled, as any Jewish boy was, in the Torah and that He had learned Joseph’s trade as a carpenter (Matt 13:55) but NOTHING indicates that Jesus wasn’t just a normal guy!

So how did Jesus know Who He was and what He was here on earth to do? Well, for starters, He was 100% God in 100% of a man’s body-guess that’s pretty big! The only other influences that would have shaped this Young Man’s life into the Word wielding, demon chasing, dead raising Healer He became are that His parents TOLD Him, training Him for Messianic Manhood and that God’s Word (remember that all they had was the Old Testament) taught and guided Him!

Parental influence is important! God’s inspired Word, even if it’s just the Old Testament, is POWERFUL (Heb 4:12)!

Think about it!
