“Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.  In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.  Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:14‭-‬17

We’ve looked at each piece of armor God has given to us to stand against our enemy, the devil, who’s only mission is to steal from us, kill us and destroy us (John 10:10)!

The last piece of armor Paul lists is our only offensive weapon–“The sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God”. The Roman sword was strong and heavy. A simple swat from it was enough to knock a man down. It was sharpened on both sides, producing a blade that could cut, both coming and going. In terms of spiritual weapontry, it’s identified as the Word of God!

God’s Word is repeatedly described as a sword throughout the Bible! Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” Here, God’s word is living, it pierces, divides and identifies areas in our life needing change. Parallel to this, Paul describes God’s word as, “inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2 Timothy 3:16 Jesus, in Revelation 15, is pictured as a Counquoring King, Who shows up riding a white horse, with eyes of fire, wearing a robe dripped in blood with the title “Word of God” and having a sword protruding from His mouth, unmistakably identified as the Word of God, with which He would “strike the nations” (those that had opposed Him & His Bride, the Church)! This is vivid imagery of God’s Word that is such an accessible, powerful weapon for us NOW, if we know it and know how to use it! So, how much of God’s Word are you skillful enough to use as a weapon and wise enough to use without destroying others?  It’s definitely time to dive into the Word of God!

So use God’s armor! Hang your sword on the Belt of Truth and tie your other armor together with it! Protect your vital organs, especially your heart, with the Body Armor of Righteousness-God’s Righteousness! Stand your ground, wearing the “Shoes of Peace” and be known as a peace maker and a peace bringer! Lift up your “Shield of Faith” & extinguish the devil’s fiery, accusing arrows with it! Don’t forget your “Helmet of Salvation” to protect you against the head games of the enemy! Above all, train hard so you can effectively use the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God!

Think about it!
