“I will exalt You, Lord , because You have lifted me up and have not allowed my enemies to triumph over me. Lord my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me. Lord , You brought me up from Sheol; You spared me from among those going down to the Pit. Sing to Yahweh, you His faithful ones, and praise His holy name. For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor, a lifetime. Weeping may spend the night, but there is joy in the morning.”
Psalms 30:1-5
David knew God. Even on days when God seemed silent and uncaring, David worshipped God because he knew God. David pronounces in retrospect that God had “lifted him up and not allowed his enemies to triumph over” him! He had cried out to God for help and God saved him, time after time after time! In this instance he’d cried out and God had healed him and had sparred his very life! David knew God’s heart and character too. Verse 4-5 are profound and puts life in perspective: “For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor, a lifetime.Weeping may last for the night, but there is joy in the morning.” Will tough times come? Yes! Are these times sometimes our own fault? Yes! The Bible says that if we’re REALLY God’s children, God will discipline us to correct us (Hebrews 12:5-11) like a good earthly Father disciplines and corrects the children he loves. God’s hand of discipline actually affirms that we’re really His! But, it DOESN’T LAST FOREVER! In the expanse of life we may weep for a night BUT HANG IN THERE-JOY WILL COME IN THE MORNING!
Tough times will come in life, but they’re temporary. God’s favor, God’s faithfulness and God’s joy in intervening in our circumstances lasts forever! Don’t mistake what’s temporary in your life as your forever! Think about it!
