Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, because it is written: Everyone who is hung on a tree is cursed. The purpose was that the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles by Christ Jesus, so that we could receive the promised Spirit through faith.
Galatians 3:13-14
God had promosed a New day, several hundred years before the Apostle Paul wrote this letter to the Galations. Ezekiah the prophet had written about a New day when God would place in us a New Heart-made of flesh instead of stone and a New Spirit, His Spirit, Who would live within us, prompting us follow the heart of God. (Ezekiah 36:26). Well, THAT DAY HAD COME ON THE DAY OF PENTICOST! (Acts 2). 70 days prior to that day, Jesus had died on the cross, taking the punishment for our sins. Here in Galations, Paul reminds his readers that Jesus literally became sin’s curse when He hung upon the cross, so that God’s promose to Abraham-that same promise that had given the Isrealites hope for centuries, would come alive in the gentiles. JESUS BECAME SIN’S CURSE FOR ME BECAUSE I AM A GENTILE!
SO, Jesus died so that I could experience the reality of having His Holy Spirit alive within my Gentile self! The whole chapter challenges the Galations to live by faith, since their salvation/infilling of the Holy Spirit had been obtained by faith in Jesus, not by works and keeping the Law!
Here’s the deal: if we were saved by Jesus thru faith, shouldn’t we live for Jesus, thru faith, particurally since we’re empowered by Holy Spirit? Think about it!
