“I love You, Lord , my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my mountain where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I called to the Lord , who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies. I called to the Lord in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears.” Psalms 18:1-3, 6
David loved God, in fact, the Bible called David a “man after God’s own heart”. Maybe one of the reasons was because God had brought David thru so much. As a mere boy, while shepherding his sheep on the the hillside, David, empowered by God had killed both a lion and a bear, using very primative weapons. As a youth of perhaps 12, God had given David the killer shot from his sling that brought down the 9 foot Philistine giant, Goliath, cutting his head off and delivering it to his opponents. As a young man, God repeatedly delivered him from Saul, the reigning King, who felt so threatened by David that he tried multiple times-even leading military champaigns-trying to kill David. As Saul’s successor, King David, continually fought everything from the Philistines to his own son Absalom, who tried to kill David in order to take over his kingdom. Most importantly, at the lowest point of David’s life, God delivered him from the sin of adultery and murder.
GOD WAS DAVID’S DELIVERER!
So its with great confidence that David proclaims, “the Lord is my Rock, my Fortress, and my Deliverer, my God, my Mountain where I seek refuge, my Shield and the horn of my salvation, my Stronghold!”
David had found the Lord his God to be everything he needed! Who’s your deliverer today? If you’re your own deliverer, how’s that working out for you? Seriously? Probably not so well, if you’re truely honest.
The key is in verse 6, where he says that he CRIED OUT TO GOD IN HIS DISTRESS and God heard him from on high! CRY OUT! GOD IS LISTENING! Think about it!
