“Yahweh, if You considered sins, Lord, who could stand? But with You there is forgiveness, so that You may be revered. I wait for Yahweh; I wait and put my hope in His word. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning — more than watchmen for the morning. Israel, put your hope in the Lord . For there is faithful love with the Lord , and with Him is redemption in abundance.” Psalms 130:3‭-‬7

Anyone who has ever driven all night cross- country or frozen on a camping trip understands not being able to wait til morning! When you’re cold and/or sleepy, those first bright streaks of purple, red and orange that streak across the eastern sky at first light, are certainly a welcome sight! The longer and colder the night, the more eagerly we await the dawn!
The writer of this Psalm yearned for God the way a night-watchmen waits for dawn. He couldnt wait to be with God. He was well aware that such a privilage was based soley on God’s goodness and favor because he writes in verse 3 that if “You (God) considered sins, Lord, who could stand?” Instead, he leans on the fact that “with You (God) there is forgiveness,”. God is loving and merciful to even the worst of sinners and is forgiving of even the worst of sins. David knew this first hand! That’s why he was so grateful and eager to get into God’s presence.
He leads his Nation, Israel, to put their hope in the Lord who can be trusted and Who is merciful.

David completes his song by saying, “For there is faithful love with the Lord , and with Him is redemption in abundance”! David’suse of adjectives confirms his love, respect and adoration for God. FAITHFUL love and ABUNDANT redemption describes a God Who is altogether lovely and worthy of our praise. Do we long for God with a depirate heart like a person longs for an old friend or a loved one who’s passed on? Do we long for God as a supplier of our needs? Do we long for God at all? If we’re honest, we’ll probably find He’s Who and What we’ve longed for all along!
