“The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord ’s throne is in heaven. His eyes watch; He examines everyone. For the Lord is righteous; He loves righteous deeds. The upright will see His face.”
Psalms 11:4, 7.
David, the King of Israel, lived his life from the premise of some very fundemental beliefs. The fact that God reigns as King of the earth is one of them. That simple fact settled many things in his life! For starters, he understood that although he ruled the Nation of Israel, God ruled the earth! He knew God was in control of all those things he couldn’t control. This not only brought him personal peace and comfort, but also took the pressure off of him to suceed as king. His Kingdom’s successes were attributed to the favor and kindness of God and veiwed as part of a larger master plan.
David veiwed God not only as reigning King, but as the universe’s Maker and Ruler. He sees God, in verse 4, in His holy temple, much the same way Isaiah saw Him in chapter 6.
Finally, David knows that God is the ultimate Judge of the earth and its inhabitants. He says here, “His eyes watch; He examines everyone. For the Lord is righteous; He loves righteous deeds.” This brought not only the assurity that God was watching and would vindicate Israel, but also that God was watching him and was with him personally. This brought accountability and fairness into his personal life, his family and His kingdom! David knew if another did him wrong, they’d have to account to God. David knew if he did another wrong, HE’D have to account to God. This brought stability and perspective to his life!
David also had the hope of eternity because of what he knew about God. The hope that , “The upright will see His face”, kept him motivated and moving in the right direction.
What brings you assurity, accountibility and hope? If you lack these things, put your faith in a God Who absolutely reigns! Think about it!
