“I will love You, O Lord , my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the Lord , who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.”
Ps 18:1-3
My strength, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my God, my strength (again), the One in Whom I trust, my shield, the horn or strength of my salvation and my stronghold, were David’s depictions of Who God is to him. Three times he identifies God as his strength and all of these descriptions of God are VERY PERSONAL! Yahweh was David’s PERSONAL God! He wasn’t just David’s ideal God, He was David’s experience. King David had many enemies. Some were Israel’s enemies, some were people who were either threatened by David’s success or jealous of them. Some were his own family members, but David’s confidence was in God’s sbility to deliver him, not his enemy’s ability to destroy him! David was bot hesitant to call upon the Lord, Whom he deemed worthy of praise, for he knew God would save him from his enemies.
Here’s the great NEWS-GOD’S NOT CHANGED. He is everything to us that He was to David and He can and WILL save us when we call or cry out to Him. He’ll even save us from those enemies that are not flesh and blood that daily try to destroy us (Ephesians 6:12)! God is GOOD. God is STRONG, even when we’re not! God is our hiding place! Call to Him for help today! Think about it!
