“God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods”: Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
Psalm 82:1-2, 4
Our God is great, He rules and He is in control. Asaph knew this as He wrote Psalm 82. To a Hebrew, the “great assembly” was the thousands of those who would show up in Jerusalem at the temple of tabernacle for one of the 3 major annual holidays. It could also refer to the population of the entire Nation. The point of the writer is that God rules over this great number of people and beyond! He rules, renders judgement and hangs out in the high places of the “gods”.
Our God defends the weak, fatherless, poor and oppressed! Show me another “god” who does that!
Our God champions the plight of the weak and needy, delivering them from the grasp of the wicked. What other “god” does that?
In every other religion, man performs deeds to try to reach God. Our Living God reaches toward mankind, the crown of His creation. He reaches even to those who have nothing to offer Him in return. He loves us and desires to redeem each one of us from the curse of sin.
What is your response to a God this good? Embrace His love today simply by calling out to Him. He’s waiting for yor cry.
Think about it!
