“In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole empire should be registered. This first registration took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So everyone went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David, to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant. While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. Then she gave birth to her firstborn Son, and she wrapped Him snugly in cloth and laid Him in a feeding trough — because there was no room for them at the lodging place.” Luke 2:1-7
It was time, but God had to get everyone in place. The Bible had said that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2), but Mary and Joseph lived in Nazareth, some 69 miles away, by foot, no less. So God has the reigning king, Caesar Augustus call the whole Roman world in for a census and taxation. Everyone in the kingdom had to return to their birthplace to be counted, including Joseph who had been born in Bethlehem because he was in King David’s bloodline. Mary his wife, now due to give birth to Jesus, went with him. While they were in Bethlehem, Jesus was born, just like Micah had predicted.
Jesus was born in a stable because they had stopped at an inn that was too full for anymore people. Mary wrapped him up in a common gauze-like rolled cloth for warmth and laid him in a trough that she used as a cradle. What an auspicious, humble beginning for the Savoir of the world Who is the King of the Universe! But, that’s how it went down, maybe because Jesus was born to make God accessable to everyone, poor and rich; religous and non-religous alike.
Nonetheless, He is accessable to YOU AS A RESULT! Never hesitate to call out to Him! Today would be a great day for that! Think about it!
