“Praise the Lord . Blessed are those who fear the Lord , who find great delight in his commands. Their children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever. Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous. Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice. Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord . Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes. They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor, their righteousness endures forever; their horn will be lifted high in honor.”
Psalm 112:1-9
These are the promises for the “upright”-those whose hearts seek after God. Paalm 112 says they are “blessed”, always seen in favor by God, no matter what is going on around them! 2nd, their children are also blessed and said to be “mighty” in the land. Next, wealth and riches are in their houses-God’s favor is on their finances, so they always have enough! 4th, their righteousness (right standing with God) endures forever-that’s a great thing, because God is a forever God and He created us to be forever people! 5thly, even when its dark, light dawns for the upright-even when the world around us gets dark, God provides supernatural light for His followers, specifically those who are gracious (extending grace like God does), compassionate (loving and empathetic) and righteous (in right standing with God).
Next it promises that God will come to those who are generous and fair, they will never be shaken and will be remembered by God forever! The won’t live in the fear or dread of bad news-instead they’ll trust in the Lord. They will outlast and overlook their foes (enemies).
Lastly, their righteouness will ensure forever-because it originates with God and comes from God, its like God in ots eternity, with no expiration date! FOREVER, they will be honored and recognized!
All of these promises are in stark contrast to what is instore for the unrightous of verse 10, who are called “wicked man”, who will see the blessings of the rightous, and in jealousy, be so angery that they gnash their teeth (grind down from griting). They’ll be desperate -hopeless, and in the end, their desires will come to nothing.
So where are you living today? Do you live in the promises of the righteous or in the hopelessness if the wicked? Maybe its time to change addresses! Call out to God today-He loves you and is waiting for you! Think about it!
