The historical record of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham: So all the generations from Abraham to David were 14 generations; and from David until the exile to Babylon, 14 generations; and from the exile to Babylon until the Messiah, 14 generations.

42 generations or 3 sets of 14 or 6 sets of 7, God’s number for perfection–that’s the number of years between the life period is Israel’s father, Abraham and Israel and the waiting world’s promised Messiah, Jesus. PERFECT TIMING!
Look and you’ll see that the linage of Jesus and the first 1700 years of Israeli history included everyday and sometimes, not-so-great people. From Kings to prostitute patrons – from embezzlers to prophets- they’re all listed from vss. 2 thru 16, as Jesus’s ancestors! Ordinary and extraordinary alike! But but here’s the deal- when the time was right and the conditions were perfect , Jesus the Messiah, came! Galatians 4:4 says “But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son,” Jesus came when the TIME WAS RIGHT! 6 sets of 7 generations, God’s number of perfection, but more importantly in God’s perfect timing , GOD SENT HIS SON, JESUS to me the Saviour of the world!
