“In the sixth month of Elizabethʼs pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virginʼs name was Mary. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lordʼs servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.”
Lk 1:26-27, 30-32, 34-35, 37-38
At just the RIGHT TIME, the same angel, Gabriel, came to talk to a teen- aged girl named Mary. Mary, like every other young women in Israel, had been taught that the coming Messiah would be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14), prayed that she’d be selected by God for this honor, but probably really never believed she’d would be given this honor, because after all, this promise was 700 years old! BUT NOW THE TIME WAS RIGHT!
So here comes Gabriel with a message, Mary, you’re the one-you’ll carry the Son of God! Mary asks the obvious, “how will this work, seeing I’m a virgin” to which Gabe replies, “the Holy Spirit will place the (undefiled by the sin of man-kind, starting with Adam) SEED OF THE FATHER, GOD within you! The One born will be called the Son of God!”
WOW, ten thousand things must have flooded Mary’s mind, but her response was simple! “I am the Lordʼs servant, . . . May your word to me be fulfilled.” Gabriel had already assured her that “For no word from God will ever fail.”
God’s word didn’t fail! 9 months later, Jesus was born to Mary who was still a virgin.
How do you need God’s unfailing word to work in your life today? Think about it!
