TAKE 5–JANUARY 18, 2017

“The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon. It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.”
Psalm 74:16‭-‬17

Asaph wrote Psalm 74 amid conflict and unrest during Israel’s history. Knowing Israel went though a seemingly endless cycle of loving and worshipping God, slowly drifting away from God, bringing deciplined and drawn back by God, repenting and being revived by God, then back to worshipping God. While God never turns Himself on people, Asaph was well aware that God’s hand of decipline had been and was currently upon Israel.
Amidst the conflict, however, Aseph remembered the nature and works of God! Among other similar things, Aseph writes about God’s might, soverignty and providence!
In vs 16, Aseph attributes the establishment of day and night and their respective lights, the sun and moon to God’s rule.
He goes on in verse 27 to credit all of the “boundaries” or orders within the earth to God. Night and day, summer and winter, sea and shore, desert and water springs, etc., ALL order is established and sustained by our Loving God! No matter what human being comes to power, God is still in control! No matter what natural disaster befalls us, God has the weather well-in-hand, and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING surprises Him!
So, we like Aseph (in vs 12) should acknowlege, “But God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation upon the earth”. God has never not been King and He cannot fail. He rules continually, perpetually and justly, and will continue to do so!

Amid your conflict today, don’t forget that God IS IN CONTROL!

Think about it!
