“We give thanks to You, God; we give thanks to You, for Your name is near. People tell about Your wonderful works. I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’ and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn. Exaltation does not come from the east, the west, or the desert, for God is the Judge: He brings down one and exalts another. God’s Name is near . . . what a wonderful truth. God is always near and His Name is always what we can cry out for to enjoy the comfort of His nearness. Psalm 145:18 says, “The Lord is near all who call out to Him, all who call out to Him with integrity.” Consequently, people tell about God’s wonderful works!
The proud are advised not to boast in themselves, for exaltation doesn’t come from the earth or mankind-it comes from God, when He promotes you or your leadership or your ministry.
The Psalm, written by Aseph, the choir director, ends with a personal declaration and commitment: “as for me” . . .
1. I will tell forever tell of His goodness
2. I will sing praise to God
In a prelude that introduces the Psalm, many translations will say that Psalm 75 is written as a song to be sung to the tune of “Do Not Destroy”. I thought it would be interesting to listen to a Hebrew rendition of the Psalm. This is what I found. https://youtu.be/mBV34VpWAfs.
For centuries, this has been sung to God-maybe we should sing it, or at least read it outloud as well!
