Lord , You showed favor to Your land; You restored Jacob’s prosperity. You took away Your people’s guilt; You covered all their sin. Selah Will You not revive us again so that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your faithful love, Lord , and give us Your salvation. His salvation is very near those who fear Him, so that glory may dwell in our land.
Psalms 85:1-2, 6-7, 9
As the Sons of Korah prayed for revival as they sang Psalm 85, we too, should pray for God to revive America spiritually. They spoke about Israel’s experience: “You showed favor, You restored prosperity, You took away Your people’s guilt and You covered all their sin”. Isn’t it awesome that this is the same for our personal experience with God? So why could it not be our Nation’s experience? The writer, with the word “selah”, tells his readers to stop and think about this for a while!
Verse 6 pleads with God, “Will You not revive us again so that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your faithful love, Lord , and give us Your salvation.” In other words, God, if You’ve done this BEFORE, why would You not do it NOW?
The writer ends with a simple truth, God’s “salvation is very near those who fear Him, so that glory may dwell in our land”. God WANTS to be near! God WANTS His Glory and favor to be evident in our land, just as He was with Isreal! So what’s He waiting on? US!
II Chronicles 7:14 says, if “My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”
God asks us to
•Humble ourselves
•Pray
•Seek God’s face
•Turn away from our evil ways
ALL of this involves humbly crying out to Him for help!
Yet He promises to
•Hear our prayers
•Forgive our sin
•Heal our land
American Christians, wouldn’t it be worth our time, effort and humility to do this not only for ourselves and our families, but for our Beloved Nation? ABSOLUTELY!
Think about it!
