“Not to us, Yahweh, not to us, but to Your name give glory because of Your faithful love, because of Your truth. Israel, trust in the Lord ! He is their help and shield. House of Aaron, trust in the Lord ! He is their help and shield. You who fear the Lord , trust in the Lord ! He is their help and shield. The Lord remembers us and will bless us. He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron; He will bless those who fear the Lord — small and great alike.”
Psalms 115:1, 9-13
Psalm 115 is a comparison/contrast between those who trust in the Lord and those who trust in idols. In a world that pursues glory and fame, the author begins with NOT TO US, Lord, but TO YOU belong all the glory because of Your faithful love and because of Your truth. Indeed, we as people may be fickle and ever changing, but God’s love for us is not based on what we do for Him but in who are. He created us-He loves us! Again, in a world bent on lies, God is always so truthful, to the point that the “Truth will set you free”! (John 8:32)
Then the author begins comparing a faithful, loving, truthful, LIVING God, Who gives attention to His creation to cold idols, made of stone, that have eyes, but can’t see and ears, but can’t hear . . .etc. (vs 4-8)
He then sings out, “Israel-trust the Lord.” “House of Aaron (representing the preists who worked in the temple)-trust the Lord”! “All those who fear God (representing all people, great or small)-trust the Lord, for He is their HELP and SHIELD. He tgen back-builds back through this whole list of people saying, “The Lord remembers us and will bless us. He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron; He will bless those who fear the Lord-great and small alike”.
Here are the points:
1. God never forgets anyone or leaves anyone out. He is good to the faithful and unfaithful alike. He’s faithful to everyone.
2. God never changes. He’s the same “yesterday, today and forever”. (Heb. 13:8)
Think about it!
