“Have mercy on me, Lord , for I am faint; heal me, Lord , for my bones are in agony. Turn, Lord , and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love. Among the dead no one proclaims your name. Who praises you from the grave?
The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer.”
Psalm 6:2, 4-5, 9
King David was in over His head-he cries out to God for help. Apparently, according to vs 10, he was being pursued by his enemies-which time, we don’t know.
He asks God for mercy and healing from the agony of the ache of this pursuit. He asks God to turn towards him, focus on him and to deliver him. Sounds like a REALLY PERSONAL PRAYER-but that’s okay because God is a REALLY PERSONAL GOD!
David reminds God that the dead don’t praise him and apparently, he was an excellent God praiser! He reasons, “Among the dead no one proclaims your name. Who praises you from the grave?”
Finally, David finishes his song with, “The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer.” David ASSUMES that God will answer him, and that’s a very safe assumption!
What are your expectations when you pray? Do you really excpect God to hear and answer or do you pray and than go work out your own plan. At the point that God’s answer is the default answer, is the place we’ll find true power in His answering of our prayers! Think about it!
