“Test me, Lord , and try me, examine my heart and my mind; for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.
Lord , I love the house where you live, the place where your glory dwells. My feet stand on level ground; in the great congregation I will praise the Lord.”
Psalm 26:2-3, 8, 12
King David loved God. He was called a “man after God’s own heart”. (I Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22) He loved to live in God’s Presence and He loved God’s house!
Here in Psalm 26, he asks God to examine and verify his heart and mind. He wants to make sure he’s pure before God and that his doesn’t offend God, even by thought or motive, because (for), he prays, “I have always been mindful of Your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness”. David plainly states his history of and desire to rely on God’s faithfulness-God’s ability and probibility to come through! David REALLY trusted God and not himself or his oen ability to understand things (Proverbs 3:5).
David loved being in God’s Presence. He says, “Lord , I love the house where You live, the place where Your glory dwells.” Though here, he was speaking of the “holy of holies” in the tabernacle, we can apply this to the fact that, because of Jesus, we ARE the temple of God, filled with His Presence, in the Person of Holy Spirit Himself! (I Corinthians 6:19)
Finally, David was a warrior. He prayed like a warrior, talked like a warrior and thought like a warrior! He says here, (in God’s house/Presence, “My feet stand on level ground”. A warrior would seek to fight from level ground, as opposed to rocky ground, to give him an advantage over his enemy. He’s saying, “in Your Presence, is my level ground-my advantage”, therefore, before the congregation (out in public) I will praise You!
Who do you rely on to meet the challenges of what you face today? If God worked for the greatest king in Israeli history, don’t you think He’ll work for you?
Think about it!
