TAKE 5–APRIL 1, 2017

“May the Lord be praised, for He has heard the sound of my pleading. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart rejoices, and I praise Him with my song. The Lord is the strength of His people; He is a stronghold of salvation for His anointed. Save Your people, bless Your possession, shepherd them, and carry them forever.”  Psalms 28:6‭-‬9

King David, the writer of Psalm 28, walked closely with God, but wasn’t always popular with all people. So enemy was always trying to destroy him. After one such time he writes this psalm. At the psalms start, he begins to be in the middle of his conflict and expressed feelings like I sometimes do, like “God, why did you let THIS happen?” Or “where were You, Lord when THAT was going on”? David begins with, “Lord , I call to You; my rock, do not be deaf to me. If You remain silent to me, I will be like those going down to the Pit.” The fact the “the Pit” was their way of saying “hell” only emphasises the depth of the trouble David thought he was in. But David found his hope in God because he turns a corner in verse 3 and begins to praise God for rescuing him! He says the Lord is his “Strength and Shield”. Basically, David gives credit to God for any kind of help he was recieving. “My heart trusts in Him”, David proclaims! “Because of this” (therefore),  “my

heart rejoices, and I praise Him with my song”, sings David.

Then he shifts gears, David begins to speak and sing on behalf if all his people, “The Lord is the strength of His people;” sings David. “He is a stronghold of salvation for His anointed.” Listen to David’s understanding of God’s inclusion: “His anointed” could mean the people of Israel, and in this context probably does, or it could mean David himself, or it could even be speaking prophetically about Jesus, Himself, the coming Messiah. As inclusive and all-encompassing as God’s Living word is, it may include ALL OF THE ABOVE!

“Save Your people, bless Your possession, shepherd them, and carry them forever,” David continues!

What a blessing to know that God loves us each personally enough to bless us individually. Even at that, how amazing is it to discover that we’re included in a GROUP of people that God wants to bless! God loves ALL the world and ALL of its inhabitants to bless with His Son, Jesus, Who unconditionally offers us dynamic LIFE that LASTS FOR ETERNITY!  HE’S ALREADY CHOSEN YOU-YOU JUST NEED TO CHOOSE HIM!

Think about it!
