“Give unto the Lord , O you mighty ones, Give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. The voice of the Lord is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; The voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars, Yes, the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon. He makes them also skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire. The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; The Lord shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth, And strips the forests bare; And in His temple everyone says, “Glory!” The Lord sat enthroned at the Flood, And the Lord sits as King forever. The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.” Psalms 29:1-11
“Give credit where credit is due” would be a great way to begin Psalm 29, which was written by David. Give glory to His name and “worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” This means to worship God is full regalia, refering to the preistly robes, and holy tabernacle furnishings and relics-all the pomp and circumstance that was present in Davidical worship!
David goes on to state an array of things that God’s voice drowns out, triumps over or calls attention to: over the waters, glory, full of majesty, breaks or splinters the cedars, makes them (cedars) skip like a calf or like a young wild ox(right after birth), divides the flames of fire, shakes the wilderness, makes the deer give birth and strips the forests bare. In other words, God’s command or word is above all and over all!
In His temple or in His Presence the worshippers cry, “glory”. Just like God was in control during the flood that destroyed the earth, so He is in control now! He strengthens His people and blesses them with peace.
Simply put, when the world around us seems out of control, God, in His splendor and might, remains in full control! There’s nothing that happens to us or around us that escapes His notice or that’s out of His control and His voice can stop, start, reverse, renew, unravel, heal or conquer anything we encounter at anytime!
In the words of David, “give God the glory that’s due His Name”!
Think about it!
