TAKE 5–MAY 18, 2017

He presented another parable to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It’s the smallest of all the seeds, but when grown, it’s taller than the vegetables and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the sky come and nest in its branches.”
Matthew 13:31‭-‬32
Some things need illustration. Jesus said that the Kingdom of God (Heaven) is like a mustard seed. Its tiny. So tiny it could get lost very easily. So the Farmer, by default the same Farmer from the parable of the different soils and the same one from the story about the wheat and weeds, the Farmer takes this tiney, tiny mustard seed and plants it in his field. Seemingly insignificant, it grows into a huge tree that nurtures the ecology around it. Birds nest in it. It provides shade, produces oxygen-it does all the stuff good trees do, incuding bbearing more mustard seeds. The tree outlasts its surroundings, as do most trees, bearing it valuable mustard spices for exporting profit to the Farmer. Such a big deal from such a small beginning!
This principal, however is very descriptive of the nature of our God. He uses the “foolish to confound the wise” (I Cor 1:27). He uses our weaknesses to display His strength (II Cor 12:8-10). He makes our enemies to be at peace with us (Prov 16:7). He uses the wealth of the wicked to bless the righteous (Prov 13:22). . .the list goes on and on! So why wouldn’t God use a single, tiny seed to grow a huge tree? He would!
But trees are hardly the point. The point is that the small seed makes a huge impact. You may not feel significant in the Kingdom of God. Maybe your ministry is moeing the church grass or feeding homeless people or needy kids or maybe shoveling snow off an old widow’s driveway! What Jesus is saying is that ALL of our SMALL contributions to God’s Kingdom, make a BIG impact in the big picture. Stop looking at what little you can do and start looking at what big things God can do through you!
Think about it!
