“There was a man named John who was sent from God. He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but he came to testify about the light. The true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was created through Him, yet the world did not recognize Him. He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him. But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.”  John 1:6‭-‬13

So, John the Apostle introduces John the Baptiser. JB (John the Baptiser) was sent from God. In keeping with John’s assertion that Jesus was the Bearer of Light (vss 4-5), John now introduces JB as one who came to testify about the Light so that all may believe (7-8). So JB is predicted or propheciesed about in the Old Testement. He’s descbribed as “One crying in the wilderness” (Is 40:3). So he intoduces Jesus, the Light Bearer to the world, claimimg that he (JB) was not the Light, but one who came to give testimony to or INTRODUCE Him!

So JB introduces Jesus as “The true light, who gives light to everyone”.(vs 9) This means JB’s already off to a rough start with the religious establishment who believed that only a few ELITE could be enlightened. Was Jesus, the Word or Expression of God (vs 1), God’s Message to EVERYONE? Yep, that’s what JB was saying–“even the common man could have the Light of Life”! (Vs 4)
John and JB were essentially asserting that Jesus came to “buck” the religious system. This is further emphasised in John’s next phrase, ” He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him. Jesus came to bring light to, rescue and save ALL. Sadly, all, especially Jesus’ own Nation didn’t recieve Him.

But John’s next phrase literally CHANGED HISTORY! “But to all who DID receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.”
Instead of being born into a Holy Nation, who had a special connection with God and who were considered to be God’s own Nation, we are REBORN as CHILDREN OF GOD! What a privialage! This truth permitted common people to come to God, not through a priest, not bearing an offering or gift, BUT AS A CHILD-ONE BELONGING TO THE FATHER!
The religious elite of the day (of our day too), taught that you had to behave a certain way, perform a certain way and do good deeds to get favor with God. Jesus came not only to give LIGHT TO ALL, but to BE LIGHT FOR ALL!
SO, WHO’S YOUR DADDY? Are you stuck in an old religious system that makes you work to earn brownie points with God in an effort to please Him and get close to Him or are you simply a CHILD OF GOD, which grants you FULL ACCESS to EVERYTHING HE IS AND EVERYTHING HE HAS?
Guys this is like having a back-stage, full-access pass to the Maker of eternity that you get because HE’S YOUR DADDY!
