“Jesus shouted to the crowds, “If you trust me, you are trusting not only me, but also God who sent me. For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me. I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.”
John 12:44-46
John the writer with Jesus, main character of the Bible, continues with this the theme about Jesus and His Father being one. So Jesus, knowing that many who wanted to believe in Him, but didn’t for fear of the Jewish leaders and out of a desire for their approval, rather than God’s (vss 42-43), shouts out to the crowd, “If you trust me, you are trusting not only me, but also God who sent me. For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me.” Jesis gives all glory and praise to God tge Father, whom He’s one with. Jesus is plain sayin, no SHOUTING that HE AND THE FATHER ARE THE SAME. How much plainer He say it? When you see Me, you see the Father Who sent Me! This group of people had worshipped God– Yahweh, for centuries. They had waited expectantly for His Messiah for just as long! Now Jesus, is standing directly before them, literally shouting that they were looking at the Long Expected One– that He and the God that they worship were One in the same!
He then reminds them that He had come as a “light to shine in this dark world”. He had come to turn on the Light of God in a sin-darkened world! He further says, “that all who put their trust in Me will no longer remain in the dark.” What a remarkable promise! He had literally come to give Light (vs 46)! He literally WAS Light (John 8:12)! THEY DIDN’T HAVE TO STAY IN THE DARK! Thankfully, neither do we!
Jesus was Light and He brought light to a dark world. As His followers, we too are light and are told to proudly display our light, not hide it (Matt 5:14-16)!
Have you personally met Jesus, the Light of the world, the One Who was with the Father from the beginning, Who was and is One with the Father?
Think about it!
