“I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.” John 13:15-17
So Jesus had just given an object lesson on serving by washing His disciples feet and had further admonished them to do the same. He finished this lesson by frankly stating, “slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message”. In other words, “if I’m not too cool to serve you by washing your feet, then you’re not to cool to serve each other by doing the same!” In fact, you’re actuality SERVING ME as you serve others.
Furthermore, a messenger is never more important then the One sending the message. I’m the Message-you’re the messanger! Give the Message out in the same form you’ve recieved it. In other words, if I’ve shown you love-show each other love. If I’ve served you–serve each other!
For such service, Jesus continues, we can expect to be blessed. Jesus said, “Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.” Now you know what you do: love and serve each other. If you do these things you’ll bee blessed!
Who have you loved today? Who have you served? God’s blessings for doing these things are both immediate and long-term! Start living in God’s blessings today!
Think about it!
