“Jesus responded, “It is the one to whom I give the bread I dip in the bowl.” And when he had dipped it, he gave it to Judas, son of Simon Iscariot. When Judas had eaten the bread, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus told him, “Hurry and do what you’re going to do.” None of the others at the table knew what Jesus meant. Since Judas was their treasurer, some thought Jesus was telling him to go and pay for the food or to give some money to the poor. So Judas left at once, going out into the night.” John 13:26-30
So Jesus tells Peter, and by default John, that the one to whom He hands His bread afrer dipping it in bowl of dip. So Jesus dips the bread and hands it to Judas who eats it. After eating it, vs 27 says, “Satan entered into him. Then Jesus told him, “Hurry and do what you’re going to do.” In that moment, with the absence of the acceptance of Jesus as his Messiah, as thus Holy Spirit, satan took up residence in Judus’ heart and empowered him to carry out his plan to sell Jesus out to the religious leaders. What a sad legacy–to be that guy who betrays Jesus for the price of a household slave!
Jesus looks at him and says ‘hurry up and do what you’te going to do.” Most of the only king of the onlooking disciples assume that Judas is going out to buy something for the meal or to give something to the poor, being that he is their treasurer. They have no idea of the evil that has just been set in motion!
Judas gathers his courage and runs from the room, probably straight to the high priests (religious leaders).
Has God lost control of the situation? Absolutely not! What Jesus came to do for us on the cross in terms of taking the punishment for our sin upon Himself has now been set in motion. Most of the disciples would not have believed that their Beloved Leader would be dead in less than 24 hours, but all of this was a part of God’s plan to bring us back and to Himself.
God was willing to give up EVERYTHING for you. What are you willing to give up for Him?
Think about it!
