“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14:1-4
So Jesus continues teaching His disciples. He’s already said He’s going away, so He continues by saying, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in Me.” He wants them to not stress out about Him going, so He points out their choices: “allow your heart to be trouble” or “DON’T allow you heart to be troubled”. He assures them that His Father’s house is big enough for all of them. More than that, He speaks to them about being married, accentuating the closeness of the relationship God desires to have with ALL of us.
You see, when a young man wished to marry a young lady, her would first talk to her father, pay a fair price for the privilage of marrying her, propose to her, and assuming she accept, head home to prepare a place to bring her home to. Sometimes he’d add on to dad’s house. Sometimes he’d build a seperate house on the land he’d inherit someday. Point is, he goes and prepares a home for his new bride. When finished, he’d come and get her, marry her and take her to her new home! Jesus was doing the same for this small group of disciples who founded the church, later identified as His Bride in Revelation 19, 20, 21 and Eph 5:25-27. His departure was eclipsed with the promise of His coming return when He’ll take us, the church to the home He’s prepared for us, to live with Him forever!
Jesus ends His comments with, “you know the way to where I am going.” (vs 4). He would tell them in vs 6 that “I Am the way . . .” They certainly knew to where He was going bc THEY KNEW HIM!
So, don’t let your hearts be troubled-you know Him, right?
Think about it!
