“Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.” John 14:8-11
So Philip asks Jesus to “show us the Father”. Jesus replies that He has! Repeatedly! Daily! He makes it clear that if they’d seen Him, they’d seen the Father already.
The disciples had seen the power of the Father when Jesus commanded the storm and waves to calm (Matt 8:23-27) They’d seen His glory as He was transformed right before their very eyes (Matt 17:2). They’d seen the grace of the Father as Jesus knelt and said you the woman condemned for audultry, “neither do I condemn you, go and stop sinning (John 8:11) They’d seen the heart of the Father as Jesus welcomed the children to come to Himself (Matt 19:14).
So Jesus asks “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?” Just believe, if you’ve seen Me-you’ve seen Him. If you’re still having trouble believing, believe because of the supernatural works I’ve done, because these are things only God could do!” (Vs 11-my paraphrase)
Jesus had proven over and over that to see Him was the sames as seeing God, so what’s not to believe?
In many of our lives, God has spoken over and over. He’s proven His love over and over. He’s revealed His love over and over . . .just believe!
Think about it!
