“If you love Me, you will keep My commands. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever. He is the Spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive Him because it doesn’t see Him or know Him. But you do know Him, because He remains with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you.” John 14:15-18
Jesus, having told His followers that He was leaving to return to the Father, tells them that if they love Him, they’ll keep His commandments, the foremost of which was to love God first, then each other (Mark 12:30-31). Almost in the same sentance, He says, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever. He is the Spirit of truth.” ANOTHER Counselor means Another like Me. Jesus had totally changed the way His disciples did life. He’s taught them and had shown them how God wanted them to live. He’d completely healed them and had changed their lives. The Holy Spirit would finish and support the work He’d started in them. Furthermore, Holy Spirit, would be with them and us, FOREVER! Though Jesus’ mission on earth would soon be finished when He’d leave and return to the Father, Holy Spirit was promised to never leave a Christ follower.
Next, Jesus says that only a believing Christ follower would have Holy Spirit because “the world is unable to receive Him because it doesn’t see Him or know Him”. Jesus assured His disciples that He wasn’t abandoning them to be orphens, but was providing for them and us the Promised Holy Spirit.
As promised, the Spirit of God came 50 days after Passover on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2).
The Bible has lots to say about the Holy Spirit. It says upon salvation, that He becomes one with our spirit
(I Cor 6:17), that the Holy Spirit testifies with iur spirit that we ARE children of God and that without Him we do not know God (Rom 8:16 & 9)!
You can have as much ood the Counselor/Holy Spirit as you want!
Think about it!
