“Hear, O Lord , and be gracious to me; O Lord , be my helper.” You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.” Psalms 30:10-12
Sometimes life seems so tough you feel you won’t make it. In David, King and Psalmist’s life, he was in literal physical danger-someone was trying to kill him. Regardless, in times of trouble, we, like David, can call upon the Lord to save us! He asks God to be gracious to him and to help him. Then he remembers what God had done for him in the past and asks Him to do it again . . . You, Lord, have turned my mourning into dancing. The picture her is literally one of trading a funeral for a wedding! He asks God to DO IT AGAIN! He then further paints a picture of this transaction by saying You have traded my sackcloth-old feed sacks worn in a time of mourning and repentance to demonstrate humility-into GLADNESS! The Psalmist goes so far in pleading his case to God, to say in verse 9 that he can’t praise God and proclaimed His goodness if he’s dead! He asks God to SAVE HIM AGAIN so that He can sing of God’s goodness. Regardless, in the final verse he makes a profound resolution-He resolves (no matter the present outcome) that he’s going give thanks to God FOREVER!
God is good, and His goodness to us endures forever because He wants an eternal relationship with us. I’ve made up my mind that no matter what comes my way, I’m going to give thanks to God like David did. God’s love and goodness to me has never changed and never will-why should mine towards Him? Where do you stand?
Think about it!
