“There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.”
Proverbs 6:16-19
Solomon continues his discourse about the ways of the lazy, how that often turns to wickedness and deception and its eventual impact on one’s relationship with God.
Solomon states that their are 7 characteristics of the human heart that are detestible in God’s sight.
1st on the list: pride or what he calls “haughty eyes”. Someone who is prideful often looks down on others, comparing others to themselves. When we hold others to our standards instead of to God’s standards we’re hypocrites, and almost certainly in violation of God’ standards.
2nd is a lying tongue. Solomon tells his son that God hates that. Solomon’s father David prayed for truth in his innermost being when he was confessing his sin (Ps 51: 6), and the New Testament teaches us that the truth will set us free (John 8:32). God hates lying – it’s against His nature.
3rd, God hates hands that kill the innocent. God fights for the innocent. He takes up for widows and orphans (Psalm 68:5).
4th, God is against the heart that plots evil. By default, He is for the heart that plans good!
5th, feet that race to do wrong. Ever know anyone who just could not stay out of drama? They are probably knocking on the door to this vice, because they love to be involved whatever drama that’s around them.
6th: a lying false witness. A false witness is someone who lies on another. Most of the time when this happens it’s so the lyinge party can get ahead. God detest this!
7th, God hates it when we cause drama or discourse in a family. It could be a family and relatives or the family of God. Whichever, God is against this!
It’s safe to say that all of us are guilty of at least one of these things that disappoints God! I don’t want to be
the person actively doing what God hates, do you?
Think about it!
