“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!” Isaiah 9:6-7
Again, centuries before Jesus was born, Isaiah, the prophet predicted His birth! Not only would Jesus be born, but God’s government would rest on His shoulders-in other words, He’d bring God’s government to earth. He would show us Who God really is and what His government is really like!
Futhermore, Jesus would come with these 4 descriptive Names-let’s look at each:
Wonderful Counselor: At some point in life, everyone needs wise counsel. Jesus would be the Wonderful Counselor! Not only is His counsel wise and from God’s word, it comes from Someone Who successful & perfectly obeyed God and His word completely during His human experiance. Just because Jesus was God, didn’t make it any easier to be human! As God, formerly in human flesh, He might have a pointer or two to share with us about how to live life! We should seek the Wonderful Counselor!
Mighty God: this sounds very much like “Almighty God” because He Is! Not only did Jesus show us what Sinless Humanity could look like, He showed us Who Almighty God is! One of the proofs of Jesus being Messiah, according to John was the miraculous signs and miracles that He did! Here stood a human, processing the authority and skills of God Himself, Almighty God!
Everlasting Father: Jesus Himself, on multipul occassions, said He had come to show us what God, the Father was like and what He was doing! (John 5:17-18, 10:30-33, 14:9-11) Jesus and the Father are One!
Prince of Peace: Peace-everyone’s looking for it. Jesus embodied Peace because He IS the Prince of Peace. He is the royal embodiment of Peace.
In John 14:27 , Jesus told us:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” He left us His Peace in the Presence of Holy Spirit Who resides in every believe the moment they accept Jesus as their Savior
(I Cor 6:17, Romans 8:16). Peace should be so evident in our lives as Christ followers that the world comes to us to find peace!
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father & Prince of Peace were all embodied within and demonstrated by Jesus Christ! Do you know Him today?
Think about it!
