In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created. Life was in Him, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, yet the darkness did not overcome it. But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name, The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1-5, 12, 14
Jesus, the Word of God–the very Expression of God Himself, according to verse1-the Word Who actually WAS and IS God, became flesh human like us and made His residence among us as a man, in order to show us God’s glory! He showed us God’s glory by living a flawless, sinless life. He showed us God’s glory by doing all kinds of miricles and delivering many people from sin, sickness, shame, demons, poverty and anything else pertaining to the curse! He showed us God’s glory by dying on the cross, thus taking the punishment for all of our sin for us. He showed God’s glory by defeating even death by Himself, then raising from the dead! In every way possible He showed us Who God is, and that God loves each of us unconditionally!
What’s amazing is that God uses ordinary people-an ordinary teenaged girl named Mary, an ordinary young carpenter named Joseph, ordinary shepherds . . .all showing God’s desire and willingness to do His work through ordinary people! About the only extrodinary thing about the story is the extrodinary love and care that the King of the universe took on pouring out His love and Himself on ordinary people like me! What wounderous love is this . .
As we celebrate Christmas, thank God that Emmanuel, “God Near Us” became like us, came to us and loves us extrodinary!
Think about it!
