“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:1‭-‬4‭, ‬10

The writer of Psalm 46, identified as “the sons of Korah”, introduces God as our “refuge and strength”. He obviously knew a thing or two about hardship and trouble and had found God, Himself to not only be helpful, but to actually BE our hiding place (refuge) and help! That kind of knowledge doesn’t come from having a casualy relationship with God, it comes from truely KNOWING God! He (writer) knows Him (God) so well that he states that he will not fear in the face of trouble or even the earth destroying itself, for even if the earth shakes and quakes so badly that the mountains topple into the sea, God will rescue us!

He states, “There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God”, speaking of God Himself. Everything flowing from God’s Presence produces peace that passes all understanding (Philippines 4:7).

The writer finishes by quoting God, Himself the “Prince of Peace”(Isaiah 9:6), “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” No matter what happens in your and my lives, God is still God and we can rest in His Presence. He will be exalted, no matter what comes our way. He will be our rescue, defence and supply, no matter what comes our way.
