“I love the Lord because He has heard my appeal for mercy. Because He has turned His ear to me, I will call out to Him as long as I live. I will offer You a sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of Yahweh. I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all His people, in the courts of the Lord ’s house — within you, Jerusalem. Hallelujah!”
Psalms 116:1-2, 17-19
Mercy-God sparing us of what we truely deserve-this annonous psalmist understood this concept! Even when we sin-even when we’re not capable of making a good choice-even when we intentionally make a BAD choice, GOD GIVES US MERCY!
This psalmist appealed to God for mercy, and God gave it to him. Because of this, repeated extended mercy when it was called upon, this psalmist has realized he can ALWAYS call upon God and expect Him to answer and states that he will do so as long as he lives!
Speaking of a “Thank Offering” where one would stand before the whole congregation and publically honor a vow that was made to God to publically praise Him if He would save or rescue him, the psalmist makes this public “thank offering”, the public statement, proclaiming God’s goodness and willingness to save.
God wants to save you do and His doing so is not based on how good you are, how well you pray or how many good deeds you do. Its based soley on God’s love and mercy.
Like this psalmist, call out to God today. Tell you need Him. Tell Him your problems and issues and how you feel. When you take one small step-even if its just one little prayer-towards God, He’ll move in huge ways to rescue you!
Think about it!
